Can you believe it is August? We say it every year, don't we? Time creeps up on us and before we know it, summer is over and the kids are starting school this month.
This month, our adult Inscribe the Word plan is writing The Book of Ruth. I thought a great companion for the kids would be to study friendship.
My seven-year-old has been learning quite a bit about friendship lately. My sweet little boy has had a tough few weeks. It's been one of those "these are life lessons that you just have to learn" seasons. Every moment the last few weeks seem to have had a major lesson attached to it. Leaving both of us exhausted.
I realized, gone are the days of "don't eat with your fingers" and "don't run with scissors". Now, we have met "this is what it means to be a leader and not a follower" and "God created you for purpose, don't waste it being foolish for the benefit of others". When did this happen? I want to go back to the days of eating Cheerios out of a ziploc baggie.
I realized this week the vast responsibility I have as a mother. God has put this child in my care to raise up into HIS image. Lord, I'm doing the best I can! But seasons like this one ... it isn't easy.
Maybe you are going through a season like I am with your own kiddos. What better way to start a new school year than to study what the Bible has to say about positive friendships. Just like Ruth and Naomi, our children need to learn how to choose godly friends that won't lead them down the path of destruction.
I hope you and your kiddos will join Asher and I this month as we find out what the Word has to say about FRIENDSHIP! My prayer is that they start this new school year excited to find and form godly friendships.
