Summer is here! Cue the vacations . . . cue the road trips . . . cue the family fun!
My family and I love taking Asher to Williamsburg, VA. We absolutely adore Colonial Williamsburg. The history, the colonial costumes, being outdoors, the tours, and learning about the founding of our country makes us all super happy! Throw in Busch Gardens, and Asher is in Heaven! If you haven't been to Colonial Williamsburg, I would highly recommend the trip. It is wonderful for the kiddos and adults alike.
The trip from my home takes a good four and a half hours. It's the perfect amount of time to be in the car with a seven-year-old. Not too long, not too short, and we usually only need to take one or two bathroom/gas stops. I LOVE road trips. I think they are a fantastic way to see our country, and to re-connect with the ones traveling beside us. My bucket list includes a major road trip across the USA. One day, I want to make that dream a reality.
When I take a trip, I usually fill the car with special snacks and goodies. I guess you can say I am a blessed Mom, my son doesn't like candy! I try to get some fun treats for the trips, but he won't eat candy or anything too sugary. So Asher's idea of special goodies is . . . fruit snacks! 😂 Fruit snacks, water, and some chips in tow and we are on the way.
Asher brings his iPad to read books (the EPIC! app is awesome, Momma's!) and play some games. I bring my coloring books, and Bible. We use our phones as a GPS so phone chargers are always in the car. And of course, what musicians family doesn't need an awesome playlist of amazing music?
I am excited to share with you our ROADTRIP PLAYLIST!
This playlist is perfect for any family who wants to be sure that the music they are playing for their children is okay for little ears to hear. Philippians 4:8-9 tells us, "filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.”
I once heard a message entitled "Guard Your Gates". Your eyes and ears are gates to your heart. Be careful what you allow them to see and hear.
My son and I went to the gas station the other day, and someone pulled up next to us with their music blaring. The profanity coming from that music playing at such a loud volume infuriated me. It was a righteous anger that bubbled up inside me. I didn't know what upset me more, the fact that the man didn't have the courtesy to turn his music down or the fact that my son was subjected to it, and I couldn't get him away from it.
This playlist won't make you cringe! The music is "cool" enough for the tweens and teens among us, and enjoyable for the parents and little ones. Some of the music is Christian Music, some is modern, and some brings you back to the good 'ol days.
Whether you are hanging around the pool this summer, or taking the ultimate family road trip, I hope these songs bring you joy, some cool dance moves, and singing together at the top of your lungs with the windows down!
